(2013) Judas Priest - Epitaph [320 kbps] {100.XY}
Judas Priest - Epitaph
[image=p5tL4XSMAJ] Wikipedia:
Judas Priest are a British heavy metal band formed in Birmingham, England in 1969.[1] Known for twin lead guitars, a wide operatic vocal style, and for introducing the S&M leather-and-studs look into heavy metal, they have sold over 50 million albums worldwide.
[image=p5tL4XSMAJ] Review:
Faye Coulman reviews Judas Priest‘s new live DVD ‘Epitaph’ and we speak to the metal god himself, Rob Halford, about picking the ‘Epitaph’ setlist and marking the end of a chapter.
Reliving the electrifying thrills and spills of a historic rock show in an air-conditioned cinema aisle may be considered second-rate entertainment to the mind of any right-thinking metal maniac. But as a band whose every blistering riff and leather-clad swagger looms large with the otherworldly essence of heavy metal, the theatrical vision with which Judas Priest’s closing ‘Epitaph’ date is captured only heightens their already towering stage presence.
In a sustained, 142-minute assault on the senses that sees these genre-forging Brits revisit their immense 14-album discography, this rare performance is rendered with all the explosive audio and acrobatic camera angles you’d expect of such an outing. But with every era of Judas Priest’s 40-year career being recreated in the iconic visuals that define each influential album, it’s clear that ‘Epitaph’ is no simple retrospective and, as such demands ample cinematic imagination. With its lingering close-ups and whirling overhead shots being ignited in a white-hot haze of light, ‘Starbreaker’ is particularly abuzz with fan euphoria, with Rob Halford’s operatic pipes ricocheting off expansive surround sound audio.
Judas Priest’s legendary musicianship is always a supreme spectacle to behold in any medium, but never before has the passion and pageantry of their sound been so vividly brought to life until now.
[4/5] Faye Coulman
Because ‘Epitaph’ is such a monumental milestone for Judas Priest, marking their 40th anniversary as recording artists, we couldn’t turn down the opportunity to talk to the metal god himself, Rob Halford, about ‘Epitaph’.
The ‘Epitaph’ set covers every era of Priest, what went into picking the setlist?
“I hadn’t really listened to Priest’s [back catalogue] completely for the longest time so I literally played everything, absolutely every track and [laughs] you surprise yourself, ‘oh that was a good one, i’d forgot about that’, ‘cos it was buried on side two of ‘Point Of Entry’ or whatever. And then, of course, you’ve got to have a track from ‘Painkiller’ which you can play live, every track off ‘British Steel’ which you could play live, ‘Screaming For Vengeance’ and on and on and on.”
Is it fair to say that the ‘Epitaph’ tour, and this DVD, marks the end of a chapter for Priest?
“Just in one small respect, it’s not the end of Judas Priest by any stretch of the imagination; we’re in the studio now as we speak tracking all of the new material; we’re just cutting back a little bit so we can still get out there and do the great shows that we want to do. As a 52-year-old metal head [laughs], going out doing what I need to do as a singer and as a performer, I can still do it and I love to do it. I just want to be able to go out there and not look sad and punch drunk and I think that you’ve just kind of look at what you need to do to make sure that when people see you, they go ‘yeah, they’re as good as they’ve ever been’.”

Judas Priest was one of the most influential heavy metal bands of the '70s, spearheading the New Wave of British Heavy Metal late in the decade. Decked out in leather and chains, the band fused the gothic doom of Black Sabbath with the riffs and speed of Led Zeppelin, as well as adding a vicious two-lead guitar attack; in doing so, they set the pace for much popular heavy metal from 1975 until 1985, as well as laying the groundwork for the speed and death metal of the '80s.
Formed in Birmingham, England, in 1970, the group's core members were guitarist K.K. Downing and bassist Ian Hill. Joined by Alan Atkins and drummer John Ellis, the band played their first concert in 1971. Atkins' previous band was called Judas Priest, yet the members decided it was the best name for the new group. The band played numerous shows throughout 1971; during the year, Ellis was replaced by Alan Moore; by the end of the year, Chris Campbell replaced Moore. After a solid year of touring the U.K., Atkins and Campbell left the band in 1973 and were replaced by vocalist Rob Halford and drummer John Hinch. They continued touring, including a visit to Germany and the Netherlands in 1974. By the time the tour was completed, they had secured a record contract with Gull, an independent U.K. label. Before recording their debut album, Judas Priest added guitarist Glenn Tipton.
Rocka Rolla was released in September of 1974 to almost no attention. The following year, they gave a well-received performance at the Reading Festival and Hinch departed the band; he was replaced by Alan Moore. Later that year, the group released Sad Wings of Destiny, which earned some positive reviews. However, the lack of sales was putting the band in a dire financial situation, which was remedied by an international contract with CBS Records. Sin After Sin (1977) was the first album released under that contract; it was recorded with Simon Phillips, who replaced Moore. The record received positive reviews and the band departed for their first American tour, with Les Binks on drums.
When they returned to England, Judas Priest recorded 1978's Stained Class, the record that established them as an international force in metal. Along with 1979's Hell Bent for Leather (Killing Machine in the U.K.), Stained Class defined the nascent New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. A significant number of bands adopted Priest's leather-clad image and hard, driving sound, making their music harder, faster, and louder. After releasing Hell Bent for Leather, the band recorded the live album Unleashed in the East (1979) in Japan; it became their first platinum album in America. Les Binks left the band in 1979; he was replaced by former Trapeze drummer Dave Holland. Their next album, 1980's British Steel, entered the British charts at number three, launched the hit singles "Breaking the Law" and "Living After Midnight," and was their second American platinum record; Point of Entry, released the following year, was nearly as successful.

Judas Priest - The (Real) Complete Albums Collection
[image=fXKIbhZuLc]
In 2012 Judas Priest released "The Complete Albums Collection", a massive box set. The exciting news was that their first two albums would be included. This has previously been impossible due to legal issues.
The only problem? It isn't complete. Every release from the non-Halford era of the band is summarily ignored. That's not only disrespectful to their own music, Tim Owens and the fans, it's also unforgivable because there is some great music on those albums.
So, I give you the real thing. All of the Judas Priest albums are included. Full disclosure: The versions of Rocka Rolla and Sad Wings here are the versions in the box set. The reason is that those versions retain the shitty original mix. I've included instead the far superior sounding japanese 20 bit K2 remixes. The pictures of the discs looks similar simply because I made them for continuity's sake.
Another note: A Touch Of Evil: Live includes both Japanese and Russian bonus tracks.
Enjoy!
